The following is excerpted from Ask and It Is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desires. It is written by Esther and Jerry Hicks and is the teachings of Abraham.
By paying attention to the signals of your emotions, you can understand, with absolute precision, everything you are now living or have ever lived. And, with a precision and ease that you may have never before experienced, you can use this new understanding of your emotions to orchestrate a future experience that will please you in every way.
By paying attention to the way you feel, you can fulfill your reason for being her, and you can continue your intended expansion in the joyful way that you intended. By understanding your emotional connection to who you really are, you will come to understand not only what is happening in your own world and why, but you will understand every other living Being with whom you interact. Never again will you have unanswered questions about your world. You will understand--from a very deep level, from your broader Non-Physical perspective, and through your own personal physical experience--everything about who you are, who you have been, and who you are becoming.
When you think a thought that rings true with who you really are, you feel harmony coursing through your physical body: joy, love, and a sense of freedom are examples of that alignment. And when you think thoughts that do not ring true with who you really are, you feel the disharmony in your physical body. Depression, fear, and feelings of bondage are examples of that misalignment. In the same way that sculptors mold clay into the creation that pleases them, you create by molding Energy. You mold it through your power of focus--by thinking about things, remembering things, and imagining things. You focus the Energy when you speak, when you write, when you listen, when you are silent, when you remember, and when you imagine--you focus through the projection of thought.
Like the sculptors who, with time and practice, learn to mold the clay into the precise desired creation, you can learn to mold the Energy that creates worlds through the focus of your own mind. And, like the sculptors who, with their hands, feel their way as they recreate their vision--you will use your emotions to feel your way to Well-Being.
The thrust of what is referred to as our Emotional Guidance System is that how (not what) we feel indicates whether we are focusing on what we want (good feelings) or on what we don't want (bad feelings).
We want love. We feel good to know we want love in our lives. We do not want to be alone. We feel bad to think that we are without love.
We want financial well-being. We feel good knowing financial abundance is (coming into) our lives. We don't want "insufficient funds." We feel bad worrying that we haven't enough money.
We want good health. We feel good thinking of our physical and mental health. We do not want ailments or illnesses. We feel bad when we focus on this ache or that distress.
So, it's really both a Feel Good Factor and a Feel Bad Factor. Our emotions in both directions indicate what our focus (Abraham and the Hicks call it vibration) is on: something we want or something we don't want. Since what we focus on is what we get, it only makes sense to work (entirely!) with the Feel Good Factor.
